First, we\u2019ll put to use all the excess bits and pieces from other projects. Then, we\u2019ll replenish our paper remnants by trying out the art of papercutting.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h2><b>Guest Artist: <a href=\"https:\/\/yangcuevo.com\/\">Yang Pulongbarit-Cuevo<\/a><\/b><b><\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">art<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of paper cutting has been practiced around the globe for over a thousand years, from the Philippines to Mexico to Switzerland. The art form is recognized for its intricate designs and illustrations cut from a single sheet of paper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yang Pulongbarit-Cuevo<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has been cutting paper for many years and is best known for her intricate maps and personalized text-based designs. Yang will share some of her favorite projects in order to help us design our own image using only the positive and negative space of a single sheet of paper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We will practice some basic knife skills with an introductory project. Then everyone will move on to create a greeting card, an ornament, or a mini poster. After getting comfortable with the process, Yang will demonstrate a variety of ways to build images with multiple layers, mount your creation, and use a background color to give your design some attitude.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the printmakers in our midst, these hand cut artworks can double as a stencil for screen printing, pressure printing, and risography!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Suggested Materials:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pencil and eraser<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sturdy paper* (multiple colors preferred)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cutting mat (or other board you can cut on)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">x-acto knife<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tape, preferably double sided foam tape<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">board or thick paper for mounting onto (old prints can work great!)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*Standard or thin paper will work better than heavy paper like bristol board. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Optional Materials:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glue or modge podge (if tape not available)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blank greeting card<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Twine or string to make an ornament<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Zoom Meeting ID: <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/j\/97834430647\">97834430647<\/a><\/h3>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Drink &amp; Draw [VIRTUAL] is a low-key drop-in workshop devoted to staying creative from home.
