Drink & Draw [VIRTUAL]: Optical Illusions
Guest Artist: Dave Krzeminski
Join Dave Krzeminski for a night of optical illusions. You will not believe your eyes, or how easy it is to create mesmerizing visual deceptions! Working with basic geometry, we will learn to use clever line work, repetition, high contrast, and vibrancy for high-impact psychedelic effects. Dave will demystify the construction of the “Impossible Triangle” and other visually confounding shapes that can be used as decorations, or the basis of a pattern. These fun and simple techniques make drawing feel like doing a puzzle, fitting pieces together and watching an illusion emerge on the paper. Use your drawing as a background or stand-alone poster, a book cover, a greeting card to entertain a friend, or simply as a fun technical challenge!
We’ll also get a whirlwind tour of how M.C. Escher’s famous prints gave way to the graphic design of the Op Art Movement with artists like Bridget Riley, Victor Vasarely, and Yayoi Kusama. At the end of the session, Dave will also show us how to transfer drawings into Adobe Illustrator and to prepare for screenprinting.
