Relief Printmaking
Relief prints are created through carving an image into wood or linoleum, adding ink to the surface, and transferring the inked image onto paper. In this class, students will get to carve both linoleum and wood blocks to learn about the traits of each material and become familiar with each gauge in their set of carving tools. In addition to carving techniques, the class will cover inking and printing blocks with a press and by hand as well as a variety of ways to design and print multiple color images. Students will complete a few small assignments to develop their skills before tackling a self-directed final project.
