Layered images of abstracted landscapes derived from personal experiences, place, relationship, behavior and interaction are inscribed into copper plates, informing the basis of which my work manifests. The importance of line and act of carving speak to a growing dialogue between material and my person as well my emotional attachment to place.\u201d The image transferred into a physical print serves as an artifact, a portrayal of momentary consciousness that nurtured self-discipline and potential.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><strong><em>Discipline and Distraction<\/em><\/strong><\/strong> will kick-off with a <strong>Gallery Talk with Devin Owsley-Aquilia<\/strong> at<strong> 6:00 p.m. on March 4<\/strong>, followed by the Opening Reception.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong><em>Discipline and Distraction<\/em><\/strong> is one of three\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.spudnikpress.org\/category\/exhibitions\/upcoming-exhibitions\/\">Residency Exhibitions<\/a>, a series of solo exhibitions that feature the 2015 Spudnik Press Resident Artists and the\u00a0new work they each produced through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.spudnikpress.org\/residency\/\">Spudnik Press\u00a0Residency Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Devin Owsley-Aquilia<\/strong> is a visual artist with great interests in printmaking, drawing, fibers and painting. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, she moved to Milwaukee to attend the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design where she received her BFA in printmaking \u00a0in 2015. Her work in print involves various abstracted representations of anatomical form, material and growth that are used as personal symbols of progression and transition of identity.
